Creativity is Misunderstood: Part 5
The Business of Creativity and the Creativity of Business.
This week, I have done a little experiment, publishing a short article each day about how creativity is misunderstood. To be honest, I started with only two ideas, but as the week unfolded, I took inspiration from comments on the first two articles. Then, mid-week, I received a newsletter from Arete Executive - Executive Search & Executive Career Coaching about The Business of Creativity, a report by The Harvard Business Review Analytical Services, sponsored by Canva.
My thoughts earlier in the week focused on how creativity is misunderstood. However, this report has identified a lack of knowledge on successfully implementing creativity for strategic business growth.
The report compares a series of metrics between highly, moderately, or not very successful companies that identify creative solutions to business problems. It shows a wide gap between the benefits companies seek from creative solutions and the benefits that are actually realised, demonstrating that there is more work to be done in implementing creative thinking and creative action in business.
The report discusses creative culture, leadership, diversity, collaboration, accounting for creativity, and the need for creativity training. Being sponsored by Canva, it also focuses on creativity tools and the use of generative AI.
I found the report well-considered and useful, but most of all, I love the fact that it exists, helping to elevate the discussion about creativity in business into mainstream thinking.
The report includes insights from thought leaders, authors and business executives, including; Dr. David Burkus Lee Rolston Dr. Chloe Preece Scott Berkun Natalie Piucco Amy Edmondson Kevin Bender Kevin Dame
