Periodic Creativity: Part Four

The Third Ionic Bond of Creativity-Lights, Camera…… ActION

"One percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration."
This quote attributed to Edison is the inspiration behind a conference series founded by Scott Belsky. It is the next step from the ideas based on TED—ideas worth spreading—a conference about making stuff happen.
Scott is the author of Making Ideas Happen, The Messy Middle, and a prior guest of The Common Creative Podcast. (Link in the comments below)

Today's Creativity ION is action—getting stuff done. It is generally accepted that in any creative undertaking, we need a bias towards action—constantly moving, hopefully forward. But as the saying goes, it is easier said than done.

Action results from the opposite polarities of motivation on the one hand and the dreaded procrastination on the other. The motivation drives us towards action, but procrastination is inevitable along the way. While it is generally seen as unfavourable, regrouping can sometimes be helpful. (I am talking of small p procrastination)
But the trick is to use procrastination for good. If you stay too long in this state, you risk the decaying isotope of stagnation.

Lights Camera………. Procrastination. Now, let's make some stuff happen.
